The Covina Center for the Performing Arts, also known as Covina Theater and formerly the Covina Playhouse, is a creative performing arts hub located in the heart of historic Downtown Covina. Since the Covina Theater opened its doors in 1920, it quickly became an important destination in the San Gabriel Valley, offering a variety of performing arts performances, entertainment and filming opportunities. Longtime Covina residents Chris and Retha Champion began operating the Covina Theater in 2001, hosting many performances and nonprofit events for the community to enjoy for over two decades.

In December of 2022, the City of Covina acquired the Covina Theater to help preserve it as a space for the performing arts and a valuable anchor of the City’s downtown shopping district. Following the acquisition, the City partnered with The Laugh Factory to provide comedy club operations. This partnership includes regular comedy club performances, including special performances by famous comedians.

In addition, the Covina Theater will continue to host other events and performances, including theater performances and musicals. Community members can also rent the space to host their own event! Together with The Laugh Factory, the Covina Theater is committed to providing a safe, creative, fun and diverse space for all to enjoy.
